Bifocal Leadership

Leaderhip signThis is one of those things that I wish I could take credit for. It is so ingenious and perfect, that I almost feel stupid for not thinking of it myself!

Anyway, in a recent meeting, Kathleen Garrity was speaking about leadership and thanking a colleague for their style of leadership that she described as “bifocal leadership—being able to see the distance while still focusing on the details.”

How perfect is that as a way to describe what leadership should or can be? Yes there are many styles and even more definitions of leadership, but at the core of any successful one is balance and not going to the extreme with any one particular aspect.

Thanks Kathleen! I may have to steal that one.
