Define Who You Actually Are and the Value You Really Provide for Success

Sometimes even the experts need experts. Over the last 20 plus years, I’ve noticed that there are two types of leaders—the ones who are willing to ask for help and actively practice personal and professional development, and those that believe that they must always appear to know everything.

A few years ago, I heard someone say, “if you can’t do for yourself what you do for clients, you’re an imposter.” This briefly caught me off guard, but after some consideration, I realized that this person wasn’t just saying “eat your own dog food”, but that your way always had to be the right way. Their mind was closed to learning new ways of doing things and adapting to the inevitable changes in marketing and business. If you aren’t open to learning from others, how can you stay relevant in an ever-changing environment? How can you be the trusted resource for your clients?

You can’t. You’ll quickly become dated and irrelevant. Your market will choose to work with your competition, because they will know, or at least will be open to learning new things in the industry that you are not.

The Omicle brand has evolved in the 20-plus years that she’s been in existence. She had a major overhaul in 2021, probably the biggest she’s ever had— a new logo, tagline, positioning, and even a revamping of services.

However, I didn’t do it alone.

I knew I was too close to my brand to be able to see the forest from the trees. I needed help. And that help needed to come from experts that got my multi-dimensional approach to how I work with my clients instead of someone who would just give me canned service and say it's great.

Throughout the year, I worked with at least five different mentors and experts on different areas of my business. One of these is a friend, and colleague, Eben Tobias Greene, President and Vision Keeper of ShiftUp Agency. We have an interesting dynamic when we’re together—as similar as we are in some areas, we couldn’t be more different in others.

He has a process that he developed called the Brand Culture CompassTM. It’s a visual guide that enables an organization to define who they are and the value they provide to others so they can stay on their course to success. It provides a visual foundation of their brand values, attributes, and key messages. It can be used to make strategic decisions, influences marketing, product and service development, and even hiring.

I have my own process that I put clients through, but that was the problem—I knew my process too well and couldn’t think beyond the obvious. Or challenge myself when I wasn’t going deep enough. I needed someone else to guide me on that journey.

With that guidance, I realized:

  • Omicle’s PURPOSE is to empower organizations to take ACTION and drive momentum to accelerate progress and results.
  • Omicle’s CORE VALUES:
    • COURAGE: The strength and willingness to do something even though it seems difficult in the moment.
    • INTEGRITY: The choice to be honest and consistent demonstrated through actions, words, decisions, methods, and outcomes.
    • GRACE: The stature and structure to fuel success and happiness.
    • SUPPORT: The safe space to admit hard truths and ask difficult questions, to move forward easily.
  • Omicle’s BRAND PILLARS are:
    • GROWTH: Drive results forward with passion and consistent implementation.
    • UNITY: Make connections that inspire collaborative, win/win partnerships.
    • BRILLIANCE: Create space to liberate wisdom from the soul.
    • CREATIVITY: Use intuitive listening and data to deliver practical strategies.

It’s ok to ask for and receive help, even if it is within your own area of expertise. We make more progress, faster when we work with the right people. Unfortunately, as leaders, we often only share the final product, or the results generated. We rarely share the process or the journey that got us there. Yet, it’s the journey that matters. It’s the journey that generates results.

As many changes as I was making in my business, they felt separate, like I was missing some pieces to connect them. Those pieces were shifting my brand from “what it should be” to “what it really is”. From “what others wanted” to “what I excelled at”. I went through the growing pain process that I help many of my clients go through. Don’t be afraid to take that journey.
