I Need an Army to Manage My Social Media Presence!

http://armyhandbook.org/files/2010/11/army-1.jpgHave you ever felt that way? I hear it all the time and that is one of the first hurdles that I have to overcome whenever I give a social media presentation.

I’ll admit that there are times when I too feel that way…or at least that I need help to keep up with my social media presence. But let’s put social media interaction into perspective:
  • You don’t have to go anywhere to do it—it’s accessible from any device that has an internet connection! So it actually does comes to you!
  • You don’t have to have permission to do it—that is once you understand your company’s social media policies. And even still, you personally can get involved in social media.
  • Social media is not a 9-5 operation—there are no set times when you “have to” be involved. Just be responsive to your community and interact with others. They will see your interaction when they get back to their own social media.
If those don’t debunk your initial concerns about social media, how about this… Starbucks manages their entire social media presence with just five employees! Yes you read that correctly, I said 5-employees. With five employees they are able to manage 51 Facebook pages (43 in foreign countries), 31 Twitter handles (19 international), 22 Instagram names (14 are international), each location has a Foursquare presence, and one account for Google+, Pinterest, and YouTube!

Is your head spinning yet?

I knew the vast presence Starbucks had online and the phenomenal success that they are having with it, but I did not know that it is the result of only 5 people!
